Top Engineering Values

Each team is asked to select, explain, and rank their top 8 values in order of importance.
  • Customer Comes First

We help startups with their financial modeling and planning functions.

We believe that founders shouldn’t be wasting time building and maintaining models themselves – when all they really need is to understand how their business is performing and an easy way to share this information with their team.

For startups, by now most of the non-core back office business functions have already moved to the cloud (bookkeeping has gone to Quickbooks Online/Xero, payroll to Gusto, CRM to Salesforce, etc). But when it comes to financial planning functions, companies are still wasting time passing around spreadsheets saved on hard drives. We're here to change that. We will be the next 'Salesforce for Finance' if you will!

  • Open Communication

    Speak up!

We expect all teammates to contribute to an open and communicative culture. Just because you’re an engineer, it doesn’t mean you can’t have an opinion on how we sell our product or pitch to investors. We conduct daily stand up meetings and we hope for everyone to have something to share.

  • Team is Diverse

We value diversity because it is in our DNA – starting with the co-founders.

You hear a lot about diversity in Silicon Valley but unfortunately it’s not something you see in practice. Diversity of teammates and personal experience is really important to us. It’s harder to innovate when everyone views the world in the same way. So we promote diversity in any way we can, starting with the people we choose to work with. Over half of our team are people of color. One of our co-founders comes from the public and government sectors. The other comes from finance. They met at a computer science course hackathon weekend and started a music label together. Our engineers include immigrants to the US and ping pong champions. Come join us and bring your own unique flavor!

  • Committed to Personal Growth

    We invest in ourselves.

We promote and explicitly encourage each other to continuously grow and progress by learning. We will cover the expenses of anything a team member wants to pick up to learn how to self-improve. It could be to learn a new coding language through an online course, get more familiar with sales and marketing strategies through a book on Amazon, a cookbook or fitness guide to learn how to eat and live healthier! Just by example, as founders, we both found it worth the value to further invest in ourselves to go to school again (business school), because the people we would become out from it would be worth the investment.

  • Continuous Feedback

    Tell us what you think.

In alignment with our value of promoting personal growth, we aspire to help each other further develop by providing continuous feedback. You shouldn’t have to wait for a once a year feedback review to know how you’re doing. Development is a year-round process. Therefore we often give informal and ongoing feedback week to week. Feedback is also a two way street. We all want to improve. You should feel comfortable in sharing feedback with anyone on the team.

  • Eats Lunch Together

The family that eats together, stays together.

Nomz. We always try to eat lunch together as a team. It’s great to take a break during the day, just hang out, eat, and chit chat. It’s when we find out things like one of us having a huge passion for Ferraris, one of us being a professional salsa dancer in a former life, one of us being a huge vinyl record collector, and another one of us still loving to play Yu-Gi-Oh!

  • Uses Agile Methodologies

We utilize agile methodologies to help us succeed.

Staying organized is important. We follow agile methodologies that include breaking up our product development work into small increments and iterations. We deliver new software iterations every couple days if not daily. If something sweet we made is ready and working – ship it! In practice, we hold daily scrum/standup, meetings where all teammates can deliver high level updates and daily goals and keep a Kanban board up to keep track of work stream flows.
