Top Engineering Values

Each team is asked to select, explain, and rank their top 8 values in order of importance.
  • Uses Agile Methodologies

Agile is something Inntopia has embraced in recent years for many reasons, the first of which is quality.

Our clients trust hundreds of millions of dollars in bookings to our technology and Agile has helped us ship higher quality code while simultaneously decreasing the number of issues in old code. While we certainly have client needs that require rapid development, we lean toward quality over speed. Our first scrum master, Joe Anderson, continues to travel throughout all of our five offices to coach, mentor, educate, and help new scrum masters and engineers alike to understand and embrace Agile within the company.

  • Work/Life Balance

Anything above a 40-45 hour work week is an exception for engineers rather than the rule.

The seasonality of our clients sometimes requires short bursts of all-hands-on deck, but we always balance that with time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful places where we’ve chosen to run our company. Every office is dog friendly and situated close to trails where you can get outside and stretch your (and your four-legged friend’s) legs when needed. We’ve been named to Outside Magazine’s Best Places to Work List for two consecutive years and hope to earn the honor again this fall.

  • Supports Physical Wellness

Our offices are in beautiful places and we make sure everyone has time and opportunities to enjoy them.

Our two largest offices are in Vail, CO and Stowe, VT, so annual company ski days our common and many of us, including our CEO, regularly shows up at the office after a few morning runs at the mountain. Skiing aside, we raft together, golf together, bike together, and grab beers together. Every employee is reimbursed for a portion of their season pass purchase or gym membership or whatever they do to balance time in the office and keep themselves healthy and happy. We absolutely work hard and do incredible things, but we also make sure we can enjoy the beautiful places we call home.

  • Impressive Team Members

We’re a group of people who have ambitions across all aspects of our lives.

Other companies like to point to names on their board or executive team who came from prominent, public companies as a sign of the caliber of their workforce. We simply invite people to our offices. The caliber of people at Inntopia is exceptionally high. A recent remote hire, after meeting people in person for the first time, took a few minutes on the following company meeting to say how incredibly impressed he was by the concentration of talent in our ranks. Maybe some of us would be household names if we had sacrificed family and lifestyle in a charge to the top of the ladder, but we didn’t. We believe there are more important things and that allows us to gather incredibly talented individuals who feel the same way.

  • Has Good Beer

If this is at all telling, our 2016 annual company user group meeting kicked off at the Alchemist Brewery which is just a few blocks away from our Stowe, VT office.

This is the name behind the impossible-to-find but incredibly popular Heady Topper and it’s not uncommon to use a six back of Heady as units of exchange or signs of appreciation with partners and friends. Our Edwards, CO office, aside from being across the street from a brewery, has a kegerator in the kitchen and a Friday afternoon tradition of sharing a beer before calling it a week. But a step further, it’s a sign of the comradery between offices and employees. We enjoy being together.

  • Ideal for Parents

While we love recent grads, Inntopia is run by people who know and understand the challenges and needs of parents.

Our CEO, Trevor Crist, has two children and are often seen at the office or joining in for the final day of our user group. Maternity leave and paternity leave are available and taken full advantage of. When one of our best team members had her second child, it was never a question about using her full maternity leave and the team rallied to cover for her. Additionally, many people on our teams work remotely or split time between home and office to cut down on commute times and create more time with their families.

  • Engages with Community

We believe in being involved in the community and using our position to improve the places we live.

Our CEO sits on the board of a local nonprofit and every office has a budget they can use to support local causes and events they are passionate about. Our annual user group always has a raffle or donation request for a cause we believe in. Last year we asked all of our attendees to bring gloves or winter clothes for the Chill Foundation that helps inspire youth to overcome challenges through snowboarding. Vacation Policy

While unlimited sounds great, we have seen the opposite effect on employees habits. So we have a set number of vacation days (as well as personal, sick, etc.) that we are strongly encouraged to use. More than once a manager has sat down with an employee, pointed at their accrued PTO, and suggested they bring that number down.
