Flexible Work Arrangements
Work is important, but family comes first.
In addition to our main office located just outside of the city, Relay provides our engineering team a co-working space in downtown Philadelphia in order to create a flexible working arrangement. Additionally, we allow some engineers to work from home for a portion of their work hours to accommodate longer commutes. Family comes first here at Relay. A daughter’s basketball game, a son’s play, a family vacation, this stuff matters, so that’s why we try to create a very parent-friendly work environment through flexible work schedules and healthy maternity and paternity leaves for employees.
Impressive Team Members
We care deeply about growing a smart, hardworking, and caring team.
Diversity is a key contributor to our team as evidenced by a healthy mix of age, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation among our employees. Additionally, many Relay engineers bring deep technical and software experience spanning numerous industries including financial services, healthcare, gaming, logistics and others. Multiple employees have helped to grow teams at previous startups and some members of our leadership team have taken previous companies all the way through successful exits.
Creative + Innovative
“Creating a culture of innovation” is a key company goal at Relay that directly impacts both the day to day and long term efforts of our engineering team.
We selectively leverage cutting edge technology as we are constantly on the lookout for new tools that can improve our product or development cycle. Additionally, we encourage active participation in Philadelphia tech community by hosting multiple Clojure meetups here in our office. We also have a product steering committee that sources and reviews ideas from anyone in the company on a weekly basis. What ultimately drives the sense of creativity and innovation at Relay is the fact that we’re building a completely new solution giving some of the world’s biggest companies a secure, personalized communication solution that simplifies and improves the customer experience for millions of people every day.
Customer Comes First
Relay’s gives large, service-based enterprises a mobile engagement automation solution that simplifies and enhances the customer experience.
Whether it is one of the dozens of health insurers who use Relay to improve member outcomes, or one of the nation's largest cable companies leveraging our technology to proactively guide customers as they move addresses, Relay’s technology transforms the way businesses communicate with their customers. We constantly evaluate our product through the lens of Relay customers to understand how it can help them achieve their goals and better engage with their customers. When implementing new features and functionality, we make sure to track engagement, adoption, and satisfaction. Moreover, we constantly seek feedback from customers to inform our product roadmap to generate new ideas and insights.
A sense of teamwork and collaboration are a must for Relay team members.
We’ve cultivated a sense of open, effective communication between the engineering team and all other parts of the company. Because of our flat organizational structure, getting something done here doesn’t require crazy levels of approval and back and forth. Stuff gets done because we give employees young and old a large amount of autonomy and focus on working with and for each other.
Committed to Personal Growth
All employees at Relay have quarterly reviews with their managers to set goals and discuss performance.
Beyond these reviews, we stress an environment of continuous feedback and constant learning. Whether it is lunch and learn sessions or attending relevant conferences and training sessions, learning new languages and technologies has helped our employees grow at Relay. Moreover, with the help of continued management support and training, multiple tech employees at Relay have taken the initiative to become more well rounded developers and learn new languages or skill sets that align closely with their overall career objectives.
Uses Agile Methodologies
We’ve been following agile best practices for quite some time here at Relay.
We conduct 2-week sprints across multiple (reasonably sized ~ 4-6 FTEs) teams and swimlanes. We really stress the importance of both planning and retrospectives to ensure we are constantly testing, iterating, and improving our process. We host demos at the end of sprints for the entire company to showcase and highlight what was built.
